I think they're going to struggle to space these games out enough to give them their own time to shine on the market but I guess thats a good problem to have. I'm excited but it doesn't seem like a game we'll see before 2022 which seems to be the case with most of the studios Microsoft has acquired. We dont know anything about the Perfect Dark. Gadgets were a focus in the original game and I don't expect that to change. Need to put up bed the AAAA studio thing for The Initiative. You could see how you'd be able to traverse up the outside of the building to stealthy enter one of the higher floors. The traversal will come in the form of infiltrating locations like the Data Dyne building we see in the trailer.
Given the talent they've acquired I'm expecting a big budget first person action adventure game with a focus on traversal and gadgets and a more serious story than the original. It was never something Microsoft or the Initiative said but the gaming media ran with it and started hying that aspect up. The Initiative has seen a wave of employee resignations over the last 12 months, with VGC reporting that as many as half the core development team working on the Perfect Dark reboot have left. The AAAA talk initially came from a 3rd party recruitment pitch to entice talent to the New Initiative studio.
So, my question for you guys is, is Perfect Dark really going to “fill this need”? Is it going to be an actual AAAA title like it was advertised, whatever that means? Can I get my hopes up to play an exclusive with the same - or more - weight as the top notch exclusive PS games? How do you think this is going to play out?
I’m confident that with the series of acquisitions by Microsoft (specially Bethesda), we’re going to see this difference getting smaller, and MS will probably even surpass Sony on AAA exclusives this gen. Seeing The Game Awards last night (yes, i know, shouldn’t take much of that into account) and TLOU2, Ghost of Tsushima and Spiderman constantly popping up, made me feel that those like me who only have an Xbox console, even with the amazing Game Pass, xCloud, Backwards Compatibility (reasons that make me never want to leave Xbox), MS Rewards etc., missed out on great games this year.
I was eager to see what game The Initiative had under development, and even though I wanted a new IP, it seems, from the fans feedback (since I only happen to vaguely hear of it), that Perfect Dark is an awesome project and a great choice.Īs “an honest Xbox fan” (what a line), I’ve been solely playing on Microsoft consoles since 2011, and despite of having Gears, Forza and just recently Halo franchises as some of my favorite games, I recognize we lack the number of AAAs titles that Sony has, those who actually can make someone buy a console just to play them (hell, I almost bought the PS3 just for TLOU).
